Wooyoung walked out of school at three in the afternoon. It's been over an hour now, but my friends from the dance club still haven't shown up. He kept listening to music to pass the time but after a while he had to accept that today he would probably be dumped again. Wooyoung put his phone in his pocket and planned to resign from the club tomorrow. It's useless.
It's been over a year since he moved to study. Because the old school was full of things that were bad for him, so when everything became clear. So his parents agreed for him to move here and live with relatives. Even though it was a solution to the problem, it couldn't be denied that for him it was like being left behind.
At the new school, everything seemed to be fine until recently when everyone slowly disappeared like before. Old feelings keep coming back. Wooyoung began to think that if everything continued like this, it would definitely affect him, and if his parents found out, he would have to transfer schools again, which would be terrible for him to have to do over and over again. But what can I do? He himself didn't know the reason why everyone had disappeared.
Wooyoung had to walk home because his relative accidentally drove to another city for dinner with a friend and forgot he had to come pick up Wooyoung. This wasn't the first time, so he wasn't surprised. Getting used to something is sometimes a good thing in that we don't have to suffer from it again, but even so, he hopes that someone can surprise him. I just want one good thing in life.
San looked up from the coffee table when a person in a white school uniform walked past the front of the shop. If this person walks in, it means that San's working time will be over. So he quickly wiped the table and walked to the back of the store. Take off your apron and pack your bag. It was already 5 p.m. and his stomach was rumbling. On the way home, San stops at a ramyun shop near his apartment where he eats regularly.
This often leads him to sometimes encounter people in white school uniforms. Today is the same. San ordered food and sat at the table at the end. he ate quickly Although he wanted to get to know another person, he believed that if the time came, that would be it. Pretending to eat slowly in order to spend more time with each other is really weird and shouldn't be done.
So when he finished eating and paid San then walked to his apartment, which was not far from the ramyun shop.
Today Wooyoung came to sit and wait for his friend again. Even though a week ago he had told himself that he would quit the club. But after thinking about it carefully, he didn't dare to do it. This group of friends was the last thing he had left. Walking away will make things worse. He felt abandoned even now, but having it blurred and blurred beyond vision helped him get through each day.
He sat there until the woman in the sweater turned to look at him. She had walked past him almost 6 times and he was still in the same place. She probably wondered who Wooyoung was waiting for. He hoped that girl knew the answer as well. Wooyoung put his phone in his pocket as usual. He walked slowly because his relatives forgot to pick him up again.
In front of him was a coffee shop that he walked past every day but had never stopped in. Today he did something different just because he wanted to fill in the gaps. Maybe it's a friend from the club meeting here, or maybe his mom is running errands and stops by to buy some snacks for dad so he can acknowledge his presence. He sat down at the glass table and ordered a chocolate cake and a hot drink.
After a while, a young man with brown hair and an agile expression walked up to serve. His face felt familiar, he felt as if he had met him before, but the cake in front of him caught his attention completely. Wooyoung ate everything slowly and walked out of the cafe empty-handed, muttering to himself about what he expected from this cafe.
In the middle of the night, San heard the sound of someone walking around. He wasn't sure if he was dreaming or not, but 10 minutes later the sound returned again. San got up from the bed in a huff and walked out of the bedroom. In the entrance, the lights moved because someone was actually walking. Out of fear, he grabbed a baseball bat in his hand. Taking a deep breath, he opened the door.
What he saw shocked him more than he expected.
People in white shirts
San dropped the baseball bat on the ground and walked towards him. The person in front of him had a red face and a fearful expression.
“I'm sorry I scared you. That baseball bat, I wasn't going to hit you or anything.”
Wooyoung stared at his face and considered. He was familiar with this face again.
“Well, I didn't startle you. I mean, I'm shocked, but I'm more shocked by something else.”
“Ah, is there something I can help you with? I have heard you walk around many times.”
This time, Wooyoung's face turned even redder. He didn't think anyone would know what he had done, but when another person spoke up, he felt embarrassed and wanted to get away from here.
“I heard some unknown noise in the bedroom. I usually stay with another relative, but right now he's out on business. By the way, haven't you heard any strange sounds?"
“All I can hear is your footsteps. So is there anything I can do to help?”
Wooyoung bit his lip, afraid that what he was going to say would be too much for the other person to do. But since he had no choice, he couldn't do anything but say it.
“Can you please keep me company for a while?”
San nodded and opened the door wider, inviting Wooyoung to enter. But Wooyoung just stood there. When San knew the other person was worried, he moved himself slightly inside the room. Wooyoung walked over and sat at the door. Until his eyelids hit the morning sun. Wooyoung woke up as the thick blanket fell from his shoulders. He fell asleep There was a yellow piece of paper next to the door.
I've gone to work. Please lock the room–San
After locking the room and two weeks after that Wooyoung then went to resign at the dance club. Everyone wasn't surprised and he felt good that he had finally decided to do it. He had already thought that even if he had no one, he would have to finish his studies so he could start a new life at university. But don't think that far ahead now. He walked home again and longed for some warm fresh milk.
So he stopped at a coffee shop that he wasn't sure if he had ever been to or not. Wooyoung sat down at the table next to the Christmas tree and an employee walked in. He ordered a drink without looking up from his phone. It wasn't until the waiter came up again to serve him fresh milk that he realized that the person in front of him was actually San.
“So you work here? Have you just applied?”
“I've been doing it for a long time.”
"Oh, that's why this face is familiar. And this…"
“I have to go to work first. Let's talk later."
Wooyoung nodded as he saw the shop owner staring intently at the two of them. When more people started coming into the store The atmosphere here was no longer pleasant, plus he was starting to feel hungry, so Wooyoung paid the bill and walked out of the restaurant to his usual ramen shop instead.
San finished his work and was ordering his favorite ramyeon when someone's voice called out to him. It was Wooyoung, pointing his finger at the chair opposite. Signal for San to come sit.
“So you eat ramen at this restaurant too?” Wooyoung asked in surprise. His eyes were big and sparkling with cheeks puffy from chewing on ramyeon noodles.
"yes"
“Wow, why haven't I seen this before?”
“That's it.”
San's ramen was served and this was the first time they had eaten together which was unexpected. San was a little surprised that luck was on his side. San usually eats quickly so when Wooyoung was eating his last bite of ramen, San had finished eating as well.
From this shop, it's still 5 minutes until we reach the apartment. For 5 minutes, San was grateful to have it. Before, he was fed up with traveling back like this, but today everything was different.
“My name is Wooyoung. Mr. San, right?”
“Yes, and you didn't catch a cold when you sat in front of my room that night?”
“Not at all.”
“I gave you the thickest blanket.”
“Well, thank you very much for the blanket and for keeping me company.”
“And after that night, did you hear anything strange again?”
“Not anymore, because if I hear you, I'll definitely know.” Wooyoung chuckled because he was joking himself.
The next morning, Wooyoung lay staring at the white ceiling and contemplating San's face. He remembered seeing San at the coffee shop earlier. And I also remember that San was the person who always ate ramyeon the quickest whenever Wooyoung went to eat there. San would arrive after him but always finished eating before him. And once again, Wooyoung meets San at the park and supermarket.
Maybe twice as well as they walked past each other on the front balcony. But why hadn't he felt San before? Thinking about it, it's like a blind person. But because now Wooyoung saw San, he would keep San in his sight forever. Wooyoung got up, showered, dressed and walked to the stairs to wait. Until when San appeared from the room, Wooyoung waved hello.
“You went to work today, right? My school is in the same direction as the coffee shop. Then let's go together.”
"…..yes"
San answered with a trembling voice as his heart swelled. Wooyoung walked a little closer and that made the two of them smile.
Wooyoung doesn't have any friends at the dance club anymore and this evening his relatives will probably find another reason not to pick him up. But the feeling inside him no longer felt abandoned. It's as if in the past he's looked so far away that he's forgotten that sometimes what we need is just around the corner. All we need is a light bright enough to see. And today San was shining so brightly that Wooyoung couldn't turn his face away from him.
