“Sorry to bother you. Well, I heard a sound coming from Annie's room. So I stopped by to see if anything had happened.”
“You must have lost your hearing, Armin. I can't hear anything. thank you for worrying"
“...Or maybe it's the sound of the wind?”
It is now 1:00 AM and 3 minutes later. The blonde felt his heavy eyelids close to closing. He held his hand over his mouth and yawned as he stretched from the accumulated stiffness from sitting in the same position for a long time. He decided to close the thick history book without forgetting to bookmark the page he had left on, then stood up and picked it up and put it on the shelf.
Tonight, he was alone because Eren Yeager, his close friend and roommate, had sent a message saying that he would not be returning to his room.
Armin walked towards the bedroom and lay down on the bed, closing his eyes and just as he was about to fall asleep in the silence he heard something loud. It sounded like someone was crying. He groggily pushed himself away from the covers and furrowed his brow as the next bed was still empty.
Or maybe Eren had just returned, he thought.
"Eren, what's wrong?" he asked worriedly but got no answer. The sound of crying still rang out from time to time. A thin figure opened the door from the bedroom and went into the living room. Reaching out, he felt for the light switch on the wall. When the room lit up, he couldn't find anyone. This time the drowsiness disappeared completely, replaced by fear. Goosebumps arose as he remembered the horror stories Mikasa had told him about his apartment.
'There's a dead person in this apartment. It is said that there are spirits who refuse to be reborn on the third floor. And I can feel some energy in your room,' the short black haired girl said in a serious tone.
Armin tried to push those thoughts away. Where do ghosts really exist? He consciously listened and found that the crying sound he heard sounded like a woman's. The source of the sound seemed to come from the next room.
After listening intently for a while, I was sure that it was definitely a person's voice, so I decided to open the door and leave my room straight to room number 314. next to his room Knocked on the door a few times. Soon the small figure of the room owner opened the door.
The owner of the room is Annie Leonhart.
The pale blonde haired girl standing in front of him was a student in his same year. Armin knew her because last semester they took the same class in one of the subjects. Her unique smooth face and quiet personality made many people not dare to talk to her much.
“Knocking on someone else's door so late at night, what's the matter?” said the girl with blond hair tied into a loose bun, wearing a white hoodie with her arms crossed over her chest, in a displeased tone. His blue eyes looked up to keep the tears from falling down and he sniffled in an attempt to stifle sobs. Her eyelids were swollen and red and bruised until it was clearly noticeable.
“Sorry to bother you. Well, I heard a sound coming from Annie's room. So I stopped by to see if anything was going on.” Armin avoided mentioning specifics about the crying. Because judging from her attitude, she probably didn't want him to talk about it. Annie pressed her lips together tightly. In her heart, she sensed the good wishes of the blond man in the next room. She raised her head to chase away some of the tears that were still in her eyes before answering.
“You must have lost your hearing, Armin. I can't hear anything. Thank you for your concern.” A faint smile spread across his now dull face.
“Or maybe it was the wind,” the blonde said softly before closing the door. Suddenly, the young man next to the room noticed the sadness radiating in her blue eyes.
Armin returns to the room. Falling onto the bed again But I can't close my eyes to sleep. In his head, there was only the image of the blonde girl in the next room with bloodshot blue eyes stained with tears. Turned around several times. Finally, he decided to get up and head to the front of room 314 again.
The blonde wondered to himself why he had done such a thing. This isn't his business. Moreover, he himself is not very close to this person. But it was as if something in his head told him that he couldn't leave her alone.
He knocked on the door, but this time the owner of the room didn't come out and open the door. They also shouted for him to go back. But Armin doesn't care. Said to the closed door.
"I can't stand the sound of the wind."
“We may not be close. But I don't want Annie to cry alone.”
At the end of the young man's words, the door to room 314 slowly opened.
“Come in.”
The morning sun shines in to welcome a new day. Armin opened his eyes and found himself in Annie's room all night with the owner laying on his shoulder. He gently brushed away the hair that was on his face and slowly moved up from the sofa so as not to wake the sleeping person.
Last night after Annie opened the door to let him into the room. The young woman said nothing but cried. She did not explain what the reason was. And Armin didn't ask. He just sat there quietly, keeping her company. He's not good at comforting people. But I think that at least it helped Annie not feel alone. I don't want to let her sit and cry alone.
Armin opened the door and left the blonde's room to return to his own room. Before being startled when he met Eren who had just returned.
“Armin, what are you doing in that room?” Eren's brows furrowed together. He looked at the blonde roommate with confusion and suspicion.
“It's me...” the person asked, confused. I don't know how to begin to explain.
“That's Annie's room. Are you dating her? I haven't told you before." The brown-haired man narrowed his eyes.
"It's not like that. Actually, I just..." Armin didn't even finish his sentence when Eren suddenly smiled, looking like he had thought of something, and raised his hand to wave it away.
"We're secretly dating each other. Don't worry, I won't tell anyone. You can rest assured." He concluded by himself and turned the key into the room. Before that, a small laugh sounded from behind. I turned to look and saw that I was the owner of room 314. He was leaning against the edge of the door.
“Annie! Uh, are you awake? Since when have you been standing there?” he hissed in shock. I'm afraid that the other party will hear the conversation just now.
“Just now,” she replied. Even though there were still red marks around her eyes, the blue eyes that looked at him no longer had any sadness in them.
“I will explain to Eren myself. Letting there be misunderstandings like that must not be good.” Armin hurriedly spoke up in a serious tone.
“Is being thought that dating me is really that bad?” Annie laughed slightly when she saw the seriousness of the guy next door.
“Annie is the one who will suffer,” he argued.
“How?” The blonde pretended to be honest and moved closer, causing Armin's heart to start pounding erratically. Two small arms unexpectedly hugged the taller man, making the sweet-faced young man behave even more erratically. If you don't count his mother and Mikasa, another close friend who grew up together since childhood. In this life, he had hardly ever been involved with any woman.
The person being hugged stood still for a while before finally raising his hand to embrace him and gently stroking the back of the woman in front of him.
And it seems that this time it was you who was the one who was beating the heart.
