Hiran

"Boy Hiran! Have you finished your exam? Sitting there blankly?" Teacher Yuphin's familiar voice shouted, waking me up from my trance. Actually, I'm not a person who doesn't intend to study. But today there are some things that make me distracted.

'I've taken the final exam. Goodbye to the life of a 4th grade student, I thought to myself. Tomorrow is the school break and many children are happy to go on a trip with their families. Except for me, who had to attend novice ordination during the summer at a temple in another province.

My family has 4 people. My hawker parents were rarely at home, so I had to live with my older brother, 'P'Hari', who was in grade 6. same school as me My brother and I were good students and received student scholarships for good studies every semester, but I don't know how much. Because Mom and Dad withheld my and my funds every time I told them about it, I wasn't angry at them.

Both of you are above the constitution of the house.

Having said that, it's been 3 months now and we haven't seen our parents yet. We only know that tomorrow they will come to pick me up and me to take novice ordination at the same temple. This temple has a very spacious area. Every time I come to ordain here.

will receive money offered by kith and kin 3,000-3,500 baht is different from being ordained as a monk at your old home where you hardly get any money. Brother Hari once said, 'He hired us to display in the Garden of Merit for rich pilgrims to give alms.' Readers may think that you and I are biased towards the temple and cannot enter the temple gate. Children these days don't know how to go to temples.

Children these days are far from religion and are only interested in technology....etc. I admit that that is part of it. I would like to say that in the past I liked going to the temple with my grandmother. Go measure every time you have a chance to breathe in and measure and breathe out and measure. Apart from the ruler and tape measure, I was born to measure. So what made me change?

Every time I go to the temple with my grandmother, when I don't understand, I ask her. Grandma scolded me. 'Speaking during the sermon will make you a ghost in hell.' Every time I prayed loudly, I was scolded. 'It's a sin to be a parrot, myna.' Every time I ran around under the pavilion, I was scolded, 'Don't touch the temple's things, it's a sin'. Even that temple's things are a sin.

Readers, when entering the temple, I must have sinned so much that I could not move. Why would I enter the temple and cause it to be a sin? Just thinking about it, I feel sorry for Luangta. You have been in the temple for a long time. You must have committed many sins. When I got a little older and went to the temple in the city, I accidentally broke a flower pot. That's all, sin is real.

My mother had to pay for the pot immediately. When I got home I received a cane in return. Later, when my older brother and I moved to study in the city (my father and mother brought me to rent a house in the city), everything changed.

The temple in the city is very big. We go to the temple more often. Mom and Dad bring things to sell here. He rents it for 3,000 baht per month. Later, our family didn't have money to pay for 3 months, so we had to move our things and move the shop out of the temple. Mom and Dad had to load things into an old pickup truck and go around selling things. So my brother and I had to stay in a rented house, just the two of us.

Last year, Mom and Dad took us two siblings to ordain as novices at a temple in another province. Mom said she wanted someone to take care of us. At first, we were very excited. But I'm tired and have to eat only 2 times. Sleep late, wake up early Sweeping leaves in the temple, washing clothes, mopping the floor. In this temple there is Luang Phi Moo who is the monk who takes care of the novices. Luang Phi Moo is friendly to all novices, unlike Luang Pho Tuek.

Senior monks often scolded novices not to mess with Luang Phi Moo.

On the first day I came here, my brother and I had money stolen. But Luang Phi Mu was kind enough to give us money to buy snacks. Luang Phi said, 'Coming here, there are many things to learn. The monk had passed by before the monk and he knew it well.' And before going, the monk also warned him, 'Don't tell anyone about the missing money. Especially Luang Pho Tuek'

Phi Hari and I looked at each other and answered with confusion. The next day, I asked Luang Phi Moo why I lost my money and didn't let others know. The monk then told him that in the past, when he was a novice monk, he had lost money just like us. 'But the monk saw the person who stole it. It's the monk who takes care of it. The monk then went to sue another monk and it became a big issue.

The elder monk of the temple called a meeting to investigate. Then the monk who had stolen Luang Phi's money defended himself. He said it was his money.' Moreover, at that time Luang Phi Mu was a novice, how could he have money? When the matter ended like this, the pig novice that day was immediately condemned for lying. The monk doesn't want me and you to have to be like that, so we keep quiet.

If the story were like this, I wouldn't mind anything. Because I got more money that Luang Pee Moo gave than I lost. One time, Reverend Father Tuek suspected that the novices in my room were secretly bringing food in to eat late at night. So our room was searched in the middle of the night. And there really is one under my blanket as well. The novice monks who were sleeping next to each other secretly ate it and stuffed it in my blanket because they were afraid of Luang Pho Tuek.

When discovered, I was very afraid and immediately refused. But like Father Tuek, he has magical powers. He had all the children come and meditate in front of him. Not long after sitting, he heard a rumbling sound from the round novice's stomach. Reverend Father So called the novice monk out and slammed the temple object (ruler) into his hand 3 times. After that, we amateur novices were very afraid of Luang Pho Tuek's magic.

I and many other novices have always had Luang Phi Mu as a refuge. One day something happened. Once a novice monk had blood in his stool. Luang Phor Tuek then called Luang Phi Moo to discuss with us. We all rumored that it might have been caused by a ghoul. Some people say it's an epidemic. A few days after this incident, the novice's mother came to take her child back.

Luang Phi Moo told me that 'It was because the monk secretly ate food late at night and his intestines became irritated, resulting in intestinal ulcers.' Later, Luang Pho Thuek came to stay with us more. I suspect he wanted to come and check if anyone was secretly eating things during the night. At that time, Luang Phi Moo appointed me as a novice monk who would always accompany me when there was an invitation, and every time there was a stipend.

I came here empty-handed but now I'm starting to have some money saved up. I planned to buy a mobile phone after retirement to play games, watch movies, listen to music. Luang Phi Moo laughed when he heard this and said that if he wanted to, he could be ordained here for a long time until the school semester started, which would be even better because most novices would do their religious duties during Songkran Day.

After that, when there were invitations, there were only a few monks left. Most importantly, at night I have to practice reciting a lot of mantras. The more I do, the more invitations I get. When he said he wanted a phone, Luang P' Moo was kind enough to volunteer to teach and find a textbook for chanting. It's called taking good care of you, not at all wrong with Pee Hari.

Mom called me. Oh, I forgot to tell you. Mother gave Brother Hari a cell phone to keep in touch with when she was sick. Mom said that she was going to go to Bangkok, where the old place had started selling bad things. You and I have a duty only to be informed and act accordingly.

Before the day of farewell to the monks at the temple, there was a cremation ceremony for one of the elders' kith and kin, so the novices had to be busier than usual, each having to help prepare for the ceremony. Everyone must wake up early to prepare for the event. I was assigned by the monk to bring white and black cloth to decorate the crematorium. Brother Hari doesn't know where he has gone. I had to take the responsibility of going to the storage room alone to get the clothes.

Actually, I was a little afraid to go there alone. because many novices often call it 'The haunted storage room' I once took to ask Luang P' Moo if it really was haunted. Luang P' Moo always laughed and pretended to invite me to go prove it. Which, of course, I don't dare.

I stood alone in front of the storeroom door, sweat dripping down my face from both the hot air and fear coursing through my brain. The door to the room was made of wood from the outside, making it even more frightening. Where are the cobwebs clinging to the wall? When walking, there is still the sound of the wooden board creaking.

I turned around and pretended to walk back several times. But when I thought of Luang Phor Tuek's cruel face, I was forced to push the door in.

The door was not unlocked. Every step I take makes a creaking noise. Now that I've stopped walking, the noise hasn't stopped.

It seemed to grow louder and louder, causing hair to stand up all over.

Kkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk! The sound got louder and louder. I was so scared that I backed into the wall with the light switch. Bright lights flash throughout the room. The picture in front of me made me weak at the knees. Pee Hari was held with her arms behind her back. There was a cloth tied around his mouth, which was not known whether it was soaked with saliva or tears. Luang P' Moo stared at me intently.

Brother Hari also turned pale and looked like she was about to say something, but her mouth was tied. I was so shocked that I had to run without thinking of any precepts or prohibitions. I went to find Father Tuek to help Brother Hari who was being attacked by Father Moo. Father hurriedly put down the work in hand and followed me. The storage room was creaked from the outside, as if no one was inside.

The lights were turned on again. The storage room is empty, there is no Brother Hari, there is no Luang Phi Moo. The monk and the other novices turned to look at me with wide eyes. They didn't say anything, but their eyes said I was lying.

I ran around looking for Brother Hari to confirm. But my brother didn't say anything and just looked down at the ground. As for Luang P' Moo, he acted like he didn't know and didn't point out. I was so shocked by this that I caught a fever. Brother Hari came to wipe himself early in the evening. Luang P' Moo also came to see the condition. When it got late at night, Brother Hari asked to go to bed. At that time, my fever started to go down. The fever medicine made me very sleepy so I fell asleep.

I don't know how long I woke up feeling exhausted. Feeling tired and sore in every part of your body When morning came, I went to the bathroom. It appeared that there was blood in the excretion. Or maybe I caught the disease from that novice I was close to? I was shocked and hurriedly went to tell Brother Hari. Phi Hari also said that 'It's probably a side effect from being sick' I didn't mind anything.

Even though walking is a bit difficult In the evening, the aches and pains disappeared. Reverend Father Tuek must have seen that I had a bad expression so he told me to rest fully and have something to consult with him about. I would like to tell Luang Por, but 'I'm just a little unwell, don't disturb the Father,' Brother Hari had said that. I accepted because I didn't want it to be a big deal. In a few days the semester would start.

Father and mother will probably come to take us back soon.

"Boy Hiran! Have you finished your exam? Sitting there blankly?" Teacher Yuphin's familiar voice shouted, waking me up from my trance.

"Okay..I'm done."

"When finished, hurry and bring it over there. Your mother and brother are already waiting to receive it."

"Yes, teacher."

"This year's semester break, you will be ordained at the same temple, right? I'll stop by to visit you when I have free time." My smile disappeared as soon as the teacher talked about ordination.

"Yes, teacher." I must go now. It seemed like my mother was impatient and came to pick me up even before the appointed day. Sigh..I really miss the days when I had to be alone with you at the rented house.

“Can't I be ordained this year, Mom?” I asked her in a teasing voice. Brother Hari has asked and the answer received is

“No, Mom has to go sell things. Two people living together, who will take care of them? It's difficult to take it wandering around with you. It's good to stay here at the temple. Free food and when the school term starts, you have money to save. If you want anything, buy it." Sounds good. If you want something, buy it (but you have to give half of it to your mother for tuition).

“Mom, can I be ordained nearby?”

"No, your father went and told Luang P' Moo, Phra Nanny Thuek, and will you waste his words?" Talking about Luang P' Moo, he immediately said. I'm in tears.
