The sky was pitch black like every night. The stars that once shone brightly were lost to the bright flashes of the capital's street lights. Only the soft white moon still stood out in the sky.
Kick.. Kick.. Kick..
The sound of something hitting the tiled roof in the night. The thick eyebrows of the people in the sleeping loop began to knit together when they heard the noise at 8:00 a.m. The sound was still loud...and it didn't seem to be quieting down at all. A low growl in his throat shows his discomfort. He turned his sleeping position back and forth, competing with the loud noise that was disturbing his rest.
Kick.. Kick.. Kick..
The thick figure began to bar his teeth in frustration even though his eyes were still closed. Who would let this idiot make clucking noises on his head while he was sleeping? Don't let me know or Dad will hit you with a three-faced stick!
The voice gradually faded, giving him some comfort that he would be able to sleep peacefully that night. But then he was wrong...
Creepy!
The sound he first heard of something hitting the tile roof suddenly changed to a loud crackling sound, as if something sharp was dragging the tiles exactly where his head was.
His hands began to grip the blanket tighter. Both of their eyebrows furrowed together until they were almost close. Act like you can't hear anything right now. Even though the sound of the sharp scraping and dragging the tiles was so painful to the ears. The thick figure let out a last gasp of frustration before his big eyes suddenly opened. Walk straight and open the window closest to you. The sharp face that was now fully showing an expression of displeasure looked up and looked at the source of the sound.
For a split second, he saw a pair of sharp eyes glowing with a bright amber light in the darkness. Before he realized it again, he felt warmth dripping onto his forehead. Kan used his fingers to touch the location where he sensed a foreign object.
dark red liquid both viscous and thick Smelling a fishy smell It can't be anything other than.. blood
The round eyes suddenly opened wider than before. A lump in the left side of his chest began to throb. Beads of sweat began to appear along the hairline even though the temperature in the room was cool because the air conditioner was on. Plus the air outside at night from the window is really cold.
suddenly!
“Ah! You're not here anymore!”
Karn shouted and screamed. Packing pillows and blankets, he ran down the stairs to the living room downstairs and immediately lay down on the sofa with his pillows covered. He could only repeat in his mind, "Sleep, sleep, sleep," over and over until it was almost dawn or...
“Kan, what are you doing sleeping here?” ..it's morning.
“Mother!!” Kan opened the blanket and jumped in and shook the arm of his mother, Kanlaya, in a startled voice. The dark circles under his eyes were a good indicator of how little sleep he had last night. “Did you hear that last night? Did you hear that, Mom?!”
Pork!
“Oh, Mom! Why are you shaking my head?"
“What did you hear? I heard you played games until late into the night, right?”
“Let's find out what game to play. Last night I went to bed at 10 p.m. - ow. Again, Mom.”
“When it's 10 p.m., will your eyes turn as black as a panda?”
Mrs. Kanlaya still complained nonstop about her son's behavior throughout breakfast. As for him, he could only cry because not only did his mother not listen and ignore what she was trying to tell her, but she also came and punched his skull twice. (Originally, the lump inside was not very useful. Why did mother come and make it deteriorate faster than before?)
Even though Karn was a bit fed up with being preached to by his mother from the start of the day. But because his mother was too busy complaining, he completely forgot about last night. In addition, the father, Mr. Thara, acted in a way that made fun of Mrs. Kanlaya's son's complaints, so much so that Karn laughed and his body arched in laughter. This caused the only woman in the house to bleed and the two of them preached another sermon. It made me go to school and go to work late.
When Kan arrived at school, he met his friends and started talking about fun, hilarious, and nonsensical things like teenagers do. Made him forget how sleepy he was even though he hadn't slept most of the night. When I got home, the father came to complain about his co-workers, followed by the mother who complained about the arrangement of her son and husband's things. ('Is his mother really good at complaining?'
Kan really didn't think like this at all.) They talked about miscellaneous things until it was past time for bed.
Kan lay down on his own bed and opened his eyes only for 2 seconds.
Creepy!
Damn it! How could he forget the reason he almost didn't sleep all night!?
The things I heard, saw, and smelled last night were still clear in my memory. While Karn was lost in his own thoughts, the sound rang again. A thick figure jumped out of his own bed and ran to knock on his parents' bedroom door with his own blanket and pillow, asking to sleep.
Mr. Thara and Mrs. Kanlaya were secretly surprised (not) why their son suddenly wanted to come sleep with them because Kan had been sleeping alone for a long time. What is this child thinking about?
This was already the fifth night since that day. (He went to sleep in his parents' room for 3 nights until his father complained (that he was interrupting his one-on-one time) so he could come back and sleep in his own room.) But he still remembers the sound of the sharp scraping and dragging the tiles on his head. Both the thick texture on the fingertips and the fishy smell of blood were clearly visible.
Kan smiled wryly at the door to his own room. Hug the pillow and blanket tightly in your hands. Extending a trembling hand, he opened the doorknob slowly. Step by step, fearfully He looked left and right in his familiar bedroom every step of the way to see if there was anything unusual. Slowly, he threw himself onto the bed. Even though I'm leaning back and trying to sleep tonight But Kan still opened his eyes and stared at the ceiling in the strange place above his head that used to be his birthplace.
It's quiet tonight...
Should he be happy or surprised that it was quiet? Um..must be happy-
Suddenly!
The sound of something hitting the same window he had emerged from five nights ago.
Kan turned around and looked quickly. He froze, his mouth open in disbelief. The same sharp eyes he saw five nights ago were glowing with amber light, looking at him just like that night.
“Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!”
He screamed in utter shock. He rushed over to his father and mother's bedroom. At that time, he didn't care whether his father said he was interrupting the old man's sweet time or not (this was what Kan said himself). Or will Mom complain about how heavy he is when he jumps on him?
Well.. Even though Mr. Thara and Mrs. Kanlaya complained here and there, they still hugged and comforted their son who was trembling like a baby bird falling into the water. They thought their son might be having a nightmare. Because apart from Kan coming to sleep with me for the fifth night, He didn't tell anything further.
The next morning, when his parents told him that this evening he would have to go to a friend's wedding in another province and that he would have to stay the night. Karn almost choked on the banana flavored milk he was eating.
Karn woke up on the living room sofa late in the evening. After he fell asleep while playing a quiet game alone after his parents left. He walked over and washed his face and eyes, then went to the kitchen to find something to eat. As he walked, he saw a dark shadow flash outside the window out of the corner of his eye.
Is it like..a dog or a cat?
Karn walked out into the backyard, where he saw the dark shadow just now, in order to chase that dog or cat away. He was afraid that it would take some waste and Mom would say, Only a little light from inside the house shone through enough to be seen because the sun had long since set.
He looked at the large tree in the corner. Up there..on the biggest branch He saw a dark shadow. Must be a cat if it can climb trees.
Karn walked closer and meowed, calling what he thought was a cat down from the tree. But as he approached the thing, he began to notice that It was big..too big to be a cat.
All at once!
The thing leapt onto the grass. Kan fell to his knees on the ground. Even though he wanted to run away in his heart, his body remained frozen.
His lips trembled more and more as the shape of the thing became clearer.
His eyes widened as he saw the amber light move closer than before.
His body became even more numb when he noticed the appearance of the owner of those sharp eyes.
The beak is hooked. But the shape is four-legged. The front legs he saw were sharp claws.
All at once!
It spread its wings and let out a loud cry. and still used those twinkling eyes to stare at him unwaveringly. It roared again and raised its front legs as if to attack him. Kan could only close his eyes and instinctively raised his arm to shield him, ready to receive the pain from those sharp claws.
...but he's still fine.
Kan slowly opened his eyes. The first thing he saw was the back of someone wearing a black robe, arms spread out, blocking him.
The thing slowly lowered its front legs. The eyes that he saw glowing with an amber light every time slowly faded to reveal normal eyes. But his eyes were still the color of amber.
After a while, the person, probably sure that the thing had calmed down, lowered his outstretched arms and slowly turned to look at him. Kan saw only the lips peeking out from the robe that was covering his face. The person under the cloak smiled. Karn's heart twitched at the other person's charming, sly smile.
A slender hand slowly lifted up and opened the veil. Kan really couldn't help but twitch again when he saw the other person's face.
Those big blue eyes looked deeper and more mysterious than the ocean. The stubborn nose looks quite naughty. His lips still smiled. It was a smile that didn't indicate any pleasure in meeting him. Wait..my hair is this short, man??
Can a man really be this sweet?!
A slender hand reached out to help pull him up. Karn frankly admits that his legs are still trembling from what he encountered. He stared at the person in front of him alternating with that thing behind him. The person in front of him laughed. He could only stare in confusion.
“Don't be mad at him. It wasn't meant to hurt you. It's scared too." A sweet voice said and turned to gently rub the thing's head. Scared? Is he more afraid of it? It tilted its head against that person pleadingly, which was different from the way it had threatened him like a different person. When the other person saw his expression, the words came out again.
“His name is Jasper. As for me, my name is Venus. Nice to meet you." Venus held out her hand. Kan also extended his trembling hand to shake the hand.
“My name is Kan,” Kan said in a trembling voice.
Venus saw him looking at the creature in surprise and turned to him and asked, “Aren't there any griffins here?” Uh..is having a griffin considered normal?
Kan shook his head in response. Venus muttered that it was strange. I thought people here knew me.
There was silence as Venus talked to herself. Except those amber eyes were so focused on him that he had to look away. When Venus noticed this he said..
“Jasper, you scared me just now. You should apologize to him.” Wait!!!
The griffin gave Venus a response before walking towards him. Instinctively, he took a step away but froze and couldn't take a step because of fear. The Griffin stepped closer and closer to him until they were almost stuck together. It lowered its head and touched his head and made a soft sound. Make..he is less afraid.
He looked towards Venus. Venus could only look at them and smile. Kan pumped a big breath into his lungs and slowly raised his trembling hand to gently rub the Griffin's head like Venus had secretly shown him. Then it retreated to stand next to Venus as before.
“You seem afraid of it,” Venus said. “Did it do anything more than attack you?”
Of course, it drove him crazy for a week...
Karn gave Venus a wry smile before telling Venus everything he thought was the skill (or should we say, the claws) of this griffin. But when he finished listening, Venus burst out laughing. When Venus regained her composure, she walked towards him. It's close-///-
And because of the slight difference in height, Venus had to tiptoe up. The other person fidgeted on his head for a moment before saying, “Your hair smells like food.”
Kan cried out, “I use cola-scented shampoo.”
“Is it something to eat?” Venus asked again.
"yes"
“Then it's probably because Jasper smelled your hair. So it scratched where it smelled.”
His eyes widened. "So you want to eat my head?"
“Hahaha, no, it's just a smell. I don't know if it's food or people." Karn laughed teasingly.
“At first I even thought it was a ghost. Because as I said there was blood dripping on my face.”
“Blood?” Venus acted confused. “He was probably eating a squirrel or a mouse. As soon as I heard your voice I turned around and blood suddenly dripped down onto your face.” He said as he shrugged his shoulders, not thinking it was a big deal.
“I have another question.”
"Ask me, and if I know, I'll answer," Venus said kindly.
“It..” He pointed at Jasper, “and you.” He moved his finger towards Venus. “..How did you get here?”
Venus smiled and turned to point towards the large tree behind her. “Behind that tree Suddenly the dimensional door opened. Actually, our world is two dimensions. It's difficult to meet each other. I don't know how many hundred years we have to wait for things to collide and the dimensional portal will open again.”
Kan could only gape at the other person's principles. If Venus answered that he didn't know, it might make Kan less confused.
“Why do you know so much about this?”
Venoa laughed, “Well, even though I majored in magical creatures, But my father is a professor of astronomy and geodesy, so he often protects information from me.”
Kan's eyes widened and he took a big breath into his lungs. Why does something that sounds strange to Venus speak so normally?
T^T
Venus climbed onto the griffin, causing him to notice that its hind legs were not claws like the front legs, but rather paws like a lion's. The swaying tail was unmistakably like the tail of a lion. Venus patted him lightly on the back, so he sat down, but Venus still sat on him. Another person invited him to sit together, but that one was so loud, he turned around and gave him bright eyes until he got goosebumps, so he just sat further away.
Venus laughed at the fact that he was afraid of this griffin and said that he could come sit near him because right now he was sitting about 4 arm lengths away. He saw Venus' invitation and slowly moved closer.
All at once!
But then the Griffin named Jasper spread his wings to block him from getting too close to Venus. From the first time I was afraid of it Now he's staring back intently. As for the culprit, Venus, she just sat and laughed at them.
Venus asked him about his place in this world incessantly as a curious person would. As for Karn, he was very willing to answer every question. And if he talks about something similar to what Venus knows, the other person will relate it to his own world as well. And there were quite a few moments when the annoying Griffin cried out and interrupted them.
That world sounded so...wonderful.
While they were talking about trivial things A white light suddenly flashed from behind the tree, causing Venus to shout, 'Oh!' Venus rose from behind Jasper and both him and him rose as well.
“It's probably time to say goodbye. If I'm not wrong, Jasper and I will have to hurry back before we don't get back.” Venus said in a sad voice and rushed over to hug him. As for him, he didn't hesitate to hug her back. “If I have the opportunity, I really want to come see you again.”
“Don't give hope like this. At first you said you didn't know how many hundreds of years it had been,” Kan said, then pursed his lips until Venus couldn't help but laugh.
"Really have to hurry, bye." With that, Venus jumped on Jasper's back and took off running toward the light before everything went dark. ...and quieter too
“..Bye,” Kan said softly.
The next morning Kan could hardly believe that what happened last night was true. He walked down to look at his own backyard again. There was a part of the grass that had collapsed into a large circle, as if it had been hit by a heavy object for a long time. Hmm..Jasper. He really wasn't dreaming.
The griffin-like miracle he had seen yesterday was indeed true. The cause of his fear of going crazy for almost a week wasn't a ghost. It is also a magical creature in legend. He smiled and laughed to himself in his heart.
... It wasn't really a dream.
..including a sweet deep voice His four-legged smile is unique and like no one else. And whenever you hear laughter, you have to smile. (Except for the time I was afraid of that person.) Everything is still engraved in my memory.
Curly lips curled into a smile. "I'll keep it...in my heart."
“I will keep … in the deepest of my heart”
