“Yongguk, no, don't close it!!”
“You've grown up even now and you still haven't stopped turning on the light to sleep?”
“Ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah!” he finished speaking, the white hand that was hidden in the blanket at first reached out and turned on the light switch on the head of the bed. After finishing from there, I lay down and fell asleep..
I looked at the picture in front of me. And I could only let out a soft sigh.. That's a trainee from the same company as me, my mate, my friend, and a human being who doesn't like to turn off the lights to sleep.
In fact, many people probably have moments when they don't turn off the lights to sleep, right? But at most, just turn on a small light or that orange light just enough to feel not alone. But for this friend of mine.. Kim Himchan.. He sleeps every day with the fluorescent light on!!! The first time I found out that I would be sharing a room, I was a bit shocked and made me unable to sleep at the same time.. But after a while I started to get used to it.
I looked at that picture again. The person curled up under that blanket was now fast asleep. I looked away and turned to look at the clock on the wall that chimed midnight.. Ah.. There's morning practice tomorrow. I should probably go to sleep too.. Thinking of this, I climbed onto the second bunk bed and immediately lay down.
I lay down and looked at the ceiling where the light from the bottom bed shone up and hit me.. Until falling asleep..
Rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr Rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
The phone I use as an alarm vibrates to tell me the time I set. Made me open my eyes and wake up. I reached around the pillow to find it. Until finally I found it and picked it up and closed it. At the same time look at the time displayed on that screen.. 6 o'clock exactly
Ding!
A voice from below pierced the silence causing me to raise my head and look down. It was Himchan who was opening the microwave to grab a plate with something on it. It gave off a strong aroma that hit my nose.
“What are you doing?” I asked before slowly climbing the stairs down from the second bunk bed.
“Microwave scrambled eggs with cheese,” the person in front of me drawled brightly. With a face that smiled until the teeth of a pair of rabbits could be seen. Then he took the plate and placed it in the place where we normally sat and ate. Before turning around, he picked up the rice that he had already scooped into two bowls and chopsticks. Put one cup in front of yourself and put one cup in front of me.
“I only eat things like this. You're so fat you don't know how to make ends meet like this,” I said, teasing the person in front of me. Then he looked at the eggs on the plate that were oozing with yellow cheese.
Phew!
The heavy force of the blow caused a loud noise to be heard in the upper arm. I was startled and looked up at the person who hit me. Himchan's thin, shapely mouth is now tightly pursed. His thin eyebrows furrowed together and he stared intently at me.
“I'm not fat anymore!!” said another person, lifting rice to his lips and thrusting it into his mouth at high speed.
“Yes, yes, not fat. Slim and slender like a model.” I laughed at that gesture and replied. Before bending down and putting the egg in his mouth.. Mmm.. delicious..
When Himchan and I finished eating, we took those dishes and went to clean them. Then they took turns using the bathroom until everything was finally settled. I shoveled essential items like my phone, watch, wallet, headphones, and sheet music into my backpack. Meanwhile, Himchan was dealing with his messy head.
After that, we both went to put on our shoes in front of the door and left the room...
“Ah.. That's enough for today, kids. You can separate.”
I don't know how much time has passed. I've been in the practice room with Himchan and the other trainees since 8 a.m. until now. We practiced singing, practicing dancing, and practicing many other necessary skills. There will be some rest during the day and breaks between hours. At this point, I can go back to getting a good night's rest.
I walked over to the pile of bags that were placed next to the practice room and bent down to pick up some water and handed it to Himchan, who followed me before he sat down next to the pile of bags. White hands hurriedly opened the cap of the water bottle before gulping down the liquid in a big gulp.
“Yongguk,” the trainer's voice called out to me from behind. I turned to answer. Before she smiled back at me and said some important business.
“I'll stay here for now. Teacher, I need to talk to you about something.” I nodded to her before she left. I turned to look at the trainee who was both my mate and roommate who was now spread out on the parquet floor of the practice room.
“Are you okay..?” I picked up a water bottle and drank it while using my foot to rub against the white legs that now looked weak.
Bang!
Yes.. and then he kicked me back at my leg. There is still strength left to respond like this, showing that it is still possible..
“What time is it?” he suddenly asked. I searched for the watch in my bag and picked it up to check the time.
“Twenty-thirty,” I replied, causing the initially closed eyes of the person lying there to widen. The body that had been lying spread out suddenly sprung to its feet.
"terribly!! Leave the laundry for Auntie under the dormitory!” Himchan hurriedly scooped up his things that were scattered on the floor and put them into his bag. As for me, I could only stare confusedly.
“You can go get it tomorrow.”
“Not at all! Your aunt said she won't be staying for another three days. Damn it. Are you going to close it yet? I'll go first. It's time to go back to the dormitory!" Himchan lifted the backpack onto his back and reached out to gently slap my shoulder as he finished saying goodbye. words before rushing out of the practice room with a startled expression.
Oh.. It's good to go back to the dorm.. I stood and watched the door that was initially opened until it slowly closed...
“Yes, thank you very much!” I bowed to the middle-aged man in front of me until my head was almost touching my knees. before walking out of that room A wide smile spread across my face. I looked down the long dark corridor. I walked slowly down the corridor. And then change to fast steps And finally ran
The joy in my heart almost overflowed to the point that I couldn't contain it. If possible, I want to arrive at the dormitory as soon as I step out of this building. I want to go tell Himchan.. Tell him what he has wanted to hear for a long time..
Tell him that we are set to become artists!!!
Three years of effort will soon be showing results!!
I ran until I was out of the building. but had to stop Because a large rainstorm is brewing. A strong wind and large raindrops hit me until it hurt. Damn it.. When things get better, something like this must come in every time.. I looked down at the clock and saw that now it was almost 11:00 p.m..
If you wait here, you'll definitely be late for more than this. Because this rain doesn't seem like it will subside or stop easily, and the good things that I want to let others know are almost overflowing. I decided to wrap my backpack in my arms and run through the rain.
Finally I arrived in front of the dormitory. The rain continued to pour down. I ran and hid under the building. before raising his hand to comb his own hair to get rid of the water a few times. Looking down at the bag he was holding, he found that it was only slightly wet. I took long steps towards the stairs. But had to stop again..
Because I just noticed after coming back. The whole building was completely dark.. I looked towards the front door of the dormitory and saw that the lights that were usually left on all night were completely extinguished. I turned to look at the stairs and saw that the hallway lights were also off. The entire area was covered in darkness.. Only the emergency backup lights were on enough to show the way.
I slowly and carefully stepped up the stairs..
‘Why is it so quiet..?’ I muttered through the darkness. His eyes scanned the surrounding area.
Creak..... I immediately stopped my feet.
Crack.... A strange sound sounded behind me again. I slowly turned my head towards the source of the sound and tried to peer through the dimness.
Crunch.... The shadows at the end of the stairs slowly crept closer and closer.. I moved my body as close to the railing as possible. I don't know what that is...
Crunch.. suddenly.
Suddenly, that mysterious shadow stopped in front of me.. I swallowed hard and tried to collect myself as much as possible. I peered through the orange emergency lights. The mysterious shadow in front of me was bowing his head. Long black hair covers the face.. I stared. and stared.. My breath immediately began to come in short bursts as the face that was covered with hair slowly tilted its head towards me.. Slow, slow..
As soon as that face hit the emergency lights, I stopped..
“Hello, Aunt Laundromat.” I bowed to the person standing in front of me and smiled.
“Ah.. Yongguk, right? You live in the same room as Himchan, right?” That auntie answered me. So I responded.
“Just right, tomorrow my aunt will go visit relatives in Jeju. The shop will be closed for three days. Auntie was afraid that we wouldn't have any clothes to wear, so I brought it for you." Auntie said as she lifted up the large basket she brought with her and placed it in front of me.
“Thank you, Auntie.” I took the basket and hugged it, then bowed and handed it to her again before Auntie slowly stepped down the stairs.
“Ah! Wait, Auntie.” I put the basket down and walked down to Auntie who turned to look at me.
“Himchan didn't go pick up the clothes from Auntie, did he?” I asked as I thought of another person who asked to come back first because he was coming to pick up the laundry.
“No.” Auntie shook her head at me softly. I responded and bowed one last time before she walked through the dim light and disappeared into the darkness..
Where did Himchan go!? .. That's the question that popped up in my head. Normally, he's not a careless person.. If he says he's going to pick up the clothes, he really means he's going to pick them up.. I furrow my eyebrows together. Before taking long steps, he picked up a laundry basket and walked along the path. Until finally I stopped and stood in front of my room. I tucked the basket with one arm to my waist before reaching out and twisting the knob.
suddenly...
It's locked..
Knock, I raised my hand and knocked on the door.
“Himchanon,” I called out the name of the person I thought might be inside. I waited for a while but there was no response. I did that again. But everything is the same. I pressed my ear against the door..
Quiet... no sound was made inside or emanated out.. Himchan isn't in the room?
I dropped the shoulder bag on my back and reached into my bag for my keys. before tightening the knob Then open the door
Inside the room was completely dark.. There was only the sound of heavy rain outside. Light from the sky flashed back and forth, sporadically passing through the window.
“Whoa…” I stopped, put down the basket and tried to listen.
“Huh.. Huh…” The voice sounded through the darkness again. Is it because of the cold from the rain or something that I suddenly felt cold all over my body?
"Huh, oh..." The sound trailed off and grew louder and louder.. What was this?
"Huh... Oh .." The voice was heavy and louder.. Louder.. a lot every time.. I think I'm starting to get annoyed by this sound.. until the sound faded But it's still loud enough to be heard. I think I have to do something.. I slowly peered through the darkness.. Follow the sound that is still loud and erratic.
I slowly walked my feet along the cold floor and listened intently to the sound.. Until finally I began to feel that I was close to the source of the sound.
Hurry!!
A cold sensation immediately appeared on my wrist. I was startled and tried to shake off the feeling but to no avail. The grip tightens. and harder..
“Yongkuk.. is that you?” A familiar deep voice sounded in front of me in the darkness.
“Himchan.. is that you?” I asked through the darkness. Then a heavy feeling came over me.
“Yonggukkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk... Now that guy hugged me tightly. That thin body trembled until I could feel it. And that annoying moaning sound came from this one.
“Why did you just come here!! I'm so scared!” The person holding me tightened his hold. Even though my body was damp from running through the rain, I could feel the warm wet feeling that was seeping through the fabric onto my skin... Himchan is crying.. As I said. Himchan is the one who has to turn on the light to sleep.
He once told me that he had to do that. Because it makes him feel more at ease and safe than turning off the lights to sleep..
My roommate still hugs me tightly. The shaking from before had begun to subside somewhat. I reached for the other person's back and pulled him closer to me. I tightly hugged the person in front of me. Gently rub your back to comfort.. It's okay, Himchan.. You're safe now..
“You.. let me go,” I said to the person who was gripping the hem of my shirt tightly in the dark.
Now I don't know what time it is. The rain was still falling continuously and the lights didn't seem to come back on as usual.. Plus there were creatures in the room that clung to me more than anything..
“I don't want..” A muffled voice came through the darkness with a twitch at the hem of his shirt.
“But I will change my shirt. I'm going to die from the cold.” I turned around again. And it was as expected. There was no response except the force of his grip on the shirt tighter than before.
“Oh.. you can let me die from pneumonia as you wish.” I let out a sharp breath. If that guy is still clingy Holding the hem of your shirt like this, how do you change it?
“Hurry..” Himchan answered me in a low voice. Along with the feeling of the hem of the shirt starting to loosen. When I thought that the other person should have let go of my shirt. I took off my damp t-shirt and piled it there. before reaching out to grab clothes from the closet and putting them on instead..
“I'm done!” I said to the person standing next to me.
Hurry!
Faster than the speed of light As soon as I finished speaking I felt a slight force on the hem of the shirt again.. I smiled a little and shook my head lightly. I can't believe that this person was born the same year as me. It's like he was born 5 years after me.
I looked around in that dark room. Let's just say it's uncomfortable too. I hardly see anything. This crazy rain doesn't stop falling. Tomorrow morning, will the water flood Seoul? I kept walking, groping through the darkness, looking for something that might be able to bring in some light. Followed by Himchan who was clinging tightly to the hem of my shirt..
Finally I found something that might help. I found a small flashlight and a scented candle from the cabinet. I tapped the flashlight in my hand a few times and turned it on.. Okay..I got it. Even though it's a small flashlight, it provides enough light. I shot a small beam of light towards the person clinging to me. Just in time for him to turn his head.
Now his sharp eyes were filled with tears and his under eyes were swollen. The tip of his nose that he liked was bright red. Their mouths were shaped like they were pressed together.
If you say it's funny, it's still funny. From his handsome condition before, now he is like a kindergartener crying to go home. But in this situation, I think.. I couldn't help but laugh. Seeing that, I could only let out a soft sigh before reaching out and holding onto the white hand that was clinging to the hem of my shirt and holding it tightly. before being taken to sit on the bottom bunk of the person
“Here, hold it.” I handed the flashlight to the person in front of me. He took it and held it. I spun out of there but not before I could take any steps. There was a voice that intercepted him.
“Don't go!” Himchan told me, holding my hand tightly. I turned around to look at the person sitting with his mouth pressed tight and prepared to burst into tears again.
“I'm going to get a lighter and light a candle. Just a moment..” I replied, and that made Himchan release my hand. Then he went back and grabbed that flashlight tightly. I turned around and rummaged through the cabinets until I finally found the thing I was looking for. I sat back next to the round-kneed person on the bed. Before lighting the candle in your hand Finally, a small soft orange light came in to help brighten the small flashlight.
Loudly... The rain outside continues to grow louder. And that made the person next to me move closer. The body is white and curled until it is round. I laughed softly and looked back at the flickering candle flame..
“Oh, this is Himchan.” I suddenly thought of something to tell. I called out the name of the person next to me before turning to me. But he found that those swollen eyes were already closed. Before his head slowly tilted towards me and the patch was placed on my shoulder.. I'll tell you tomorrow.. I gave a small smile to the person who had already entered a trance..
Before reaching out to pick up a blanket to cover him and hugging him to make him feel safe..
“Bang Yong Kuk!!” A deep, familiar voice.. Full origin name... And the impact of something hit me in the middle of my back. I looked down and saw a small cushion lying there. Then I looked up at the person who sent it to me.. It was Himchan who was disheveled and clinging to the edge of the bed, looking at me with a pout.
“Down the lights!” he ordered me. and pointed to the small lamp on the table where I was writing the lyrics.
“This has dimmed until it's all gone.”
“Dimmer again!” He shouted loudly. That made me raise my index finger and kiss my mouth.
“Take it easy, you'll wake up soon,” I said softly to the person on the bed and then glanced at the members of the group who were sleeping on the second floor bed and Jongup who was sleeping soundly under the blanket next to Himchan. He didn't answer me. Aside from sending him a pouty face and a swing.
Yes.. Bang Yongguk gave up.
“Oh, let's continue in the living room.” I drawled a long voice. Then he got up from his chair and picked up the papers that were scattered on the table and held them together with a pencil.
“Very good,” Himchan concluded. Before shaking off the blankets that were piled up at the end of the bed a few times, he lay back down and slept as before. I looked at the picture and shook my head lightly. Before reaching over to turn off the table lamp and walking out of the room..
I'm the one who taught Himchan how to sleep without turning on the light himself.. At first, he was upset and didn't want just one child. Until I slowly turned down the light a little bit at a time. Until finally Himchan didn't have to turn on the light to sleep anymore. And it seems that the results are better than expected..
But I'll say it.. now I really want Himchan to cling to me when I'm in a dark place like last night.
END.
